ADANI Port and Special Economic Zone, Mundra, Gujarat
Students of PU 2nd Semester & RTU 2nd Semester of Pacific University visited ADANI Port and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), Mundra, Gujarat for an industrial visit.
The industrial visit was organized from 12th February 2018 to 15th February 2018. The ADANI group is India’s largest multi port operator. ADANI port and APSEZ is a conglomerate. The company currently has an annual cargo handling capacity 338 MMT. The development of Adani Port & Special Economic Zone Limited was conceptualized by the entrepreneur Mr. Gautam Adani. Mundra port was the first one to be developed in October 1998 with just one berth. In a short span of just 12 years Mundra Port achieved 100 million metric tons of commercial cargo in a year thereby becoming India’s largest commercial port. Mundra Port has registered the fastest CAGR of over 35% in the port sector across in the India.
The Mundra port is located in the Northern Gulf of Kutch, en route major maritime routes and connected through rail, road, air & pipelines. This makes it a preferred gateway for cargo bound westwards. The port has been designed to handle all types of cargo viz. containers, dry bulk, break bulk, liquid cargo and automobiles.
The port offers 880 thousand square meters of open storage for steel sheets, coils, plate, clinker, scrap, salt, coke, bentonite, and coal. An additional 26 thousand square meters of open storage is available alongside the railway. The port also offers a wheat-cleaning facility with capacity to handle 1200 metric tons per day and a rice-sorting and –grading facility that can handle 500 metric tons per day.
On the first day of visit, the students visited the Science City at Gandhinagar where they got a chance to understand various scientific and experimental models and in later half of the day they watched a 3D IMAX movie.
On the second day of visit, the students got the opportunity to visit ADANI WILMAR Fortune oil refinery, where students learned about the refining and packaging process of the famous Fortune oil. The students also got an opportunity to see the loading and unloading of cargo containers on the jetties especially of MARUTI cars.
They also got a brief idea about the port components like jetties, breakwater, quays etc. In the evening students enjoyed and participated in the cultural program organized by UDAAN, a CSR project under ADANI Group which motivates students for entrepreneurship, innovation and how management is done in corporate world.
It is the world's 11th largest single location coal-based thermal power plant as well as India's second largest operational power plant having capacity to generate 4620 MW electricity.
74 students went on the industrial trip. They were accompanied by Prof. Dipin Mathur, Dr. Narendra Chawda and Dr. Heena Purohit.
