The Government of Madhya Pradesh has launched ONE STOP CRISIS CENTRE –GAURAVI in Bhopal for women who are victims of violence. Bhopal is the first city in the country to take such initiative. This newly created center would provide the victims assistance in case of rape, dowry harassment, molestation and domestic violence. Victims in violence cases could seek help by directly walking in or by calling a toll free number. The motto of creating such a center is to provide medical aid to the victims, assist them in filing a police complaint and increase their awareness by providing them legal advice and psychological counselling.
The data provided by National Crime Record reveals that the state has witnessed the highest number of rapes which is a serious concern for the state. The center has been established with the help of two non-government organizations(NGOs) and the center would provide training to the doctors, counsellors and other personnel. The center would act as a new helpline for women which would minimize the violence cases against them. The centre was inaugurated last year by India’s Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, Bollywood actor Aamir Khanand Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to protect women against violence. During the inauguration actor Aamir Khan  raised the issue of crime against women and also spent about 20 minutes interacting with the staff of the centre.
The state government has also recommended to set up similar centres in the remaining 50 districts of the state and has shown confidence that this effort will not get wasted and will certainly help women in fighting against violence. The centre will comprise of legal experts, police and health officials. Within its first three days of operation, center received 250 calls, of which 80 were from women suffering of domestic violence, divorce trouble, rape and harassment.
